Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t know… All this coaching… what is it? It sounds all so vague?

According to the International Coach Federation, coaching is defined as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The coach is the subject matter expert at coaching, and doesn’t have to be the subject matter expert of the client’s coaching topic.”

In other words, a coach will make you think and will steer the coaching journey so you can find your own answers, which are already somewhere there within you — you just need someone to help you get to them.

It is further about challenging you to go the extra mile that you wouldn’t have done otherwise. It is about holding you accountable, often offering you a motivational boost that can be difficult to find on our own. And it is about exploring your resources, your talents, your deep beliefs, your mindset, and the obstacles that are holding you back on your path to achieving what you would like to achieve.

How is the coaching program delivered? What tools will I need to participate?

Our sessions will take place over Skype (video call), as it’s important to have that face-to-face connection, to be able to see each other. You’ll need a device capable of making video calls and a stable internet connection. Preferably a computer or an iPad — I don’t recommend to use a mobile phone, as the screen is too small. I also recommend getting yourself an A4 size notebook (preferably without lines) for the notes you will be taking during the coaching sessions.

In the past I’d go see my Coach in their office or at their premises. Can online coaching really be as effective as in-person coaching? I have real doubts about that.

Yes, definitely! The video aspect of an online call gives an almost in-person experience. I have done a lot of coaching, other deep personal work, and trainings online, and I was pleasantly surprised that such deep work can also be done via video call. This is why I know that it works and am so comfortable offering it. It also has many other advantages. You can do it from home, where you feel comfortable. In today’s busy times, there is no need to be in a rush driving to yet another appointment. You can do it even from the privacy of your office after office hours, or while on a business trip or traveling for personal reasons.

Why do you prefer to coach online?

It’s not that I prefer to coach online. It’s simply the way I work, because I know it is possible. Also it’s hard enough to find a coach that’ll be the right fit for you and will inspire you next door or in the same town… why make things harder by narrowing your search to those conveniently located a short distance from your home? Not to mention the time you would lose driving yet to another appointment, being stuck in traffic, rushing & searching for parking…

And if we’re in the same city (as I do move around a lot), I’m happy to coach in person also. In this case, we can start face-to-face and continue online afterwards.

Why is the coaching process so long? 10+ sessions seems like a lot.

Change is a process that takes time. Through the years, we’ve gathered a ton of beliefs, patterns, and habits — changing them cannot happen overnight. You can’t expect that if you’ve lived on a certain “program” for 40 or 50 years, magic will happen over 3 or 4 sessions.

For a lasting change we also need to dive deep and give ourselves and our minds some time to rewire towards a new mindset, new perspectives, and new habits. Five to six months is a minimum process for something to change at a deeper level.

Consider learning another language — you can’t speak it fluently after only 4 lessons, can you? If a 5-6 month process is difficult for you to commit to, I’ve also put together a shorter, 7-session program designed to help you test the waters.

What type of homework will I get?

Homework and exercises for you to do between each session really depend on the topic we will work on together. There are some standardized exercises I use (for which you will need your notebook and a pen), and then there are others, depending on the area of coaching, and on each individual person. We’ll discuss these options during Your Free Discovery Call.

How much time will the program take up per week?

I know life gets busy, which is why the Sabbatical Coaching Journey has an extra “buffer” month. Some exercises are designed to take you 20 minutes daily, some will only take a few minutes throughout the day, and then some you’ll spend a few hours on.

In general, expect to spend on average 2-3 extra hours each week, on top of your Coaching session with me. At the end of the day you know how it goes — the more time and focus you put into this process, the more you will get out of it.

What if I don’t find this helpful? Can I get a refund?

Because of the nature of coaching, there are no refunds.

Along with the info available on this site and via my social media, I offer a Free Discovery Call — so that you can get a good feel for who I am and if I’m the right coach to help you. I want you to be sure before we begin. Once we’ve begun your journey, it’s normal for inner fears and blocks to pop up — and these are the perfect topics for us to explore and work through during your coaching journey.

What are the payment options?

You can either pay upfront (and get a discount) or pick the monthly installment option. We will discuss other options on Your Free Discovery Call.

I don't feel completely lost. I have a good job and I'm generally happy. I just want to push myself further in my career and my passions but can't find the motivation. Is coaching for me?

Yes, coaching is for you. In this case we will take a different approach and we will work more on the accountability and motivation for you to reach the goals you have set for yourself.

Have you gone to a coach yourself?

Yes, of course I have. And I still do. I mentioned this fact also in the About Me section. I’ve worked with several of them, depending on the stage of my life and on what I wanted to work on. And I am continuing to work with a coach, because life is an ongoing process and change is the only constant thing in life.
